| Broken Brow are a
five-piece, from Reading, Berkshire, ENGLAND. Not much info with this one, but I guess
that they didn't realise I was going to review this for Attitude when they sent me it. The
format I was sent, was a 7" vinyl single (oh... the good old days...) and a fairly
plain, if well drawn, two-colour cover. "Vagrant" - the A-Side - is produced in a fairly lo-fi manner, which does seem to suit this band. Concerning homelessness (I guess... no lyricsheet), if you can imagine The Cure's "The Love Cats" sung by Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys, you'll get a close idea of the song (although more than a few of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about - a bit before your time?). The AA-Side - "Bite Back" - has a mellower, dare I say 'bluesy', feel to it. However, John Overton's vocal style doesn't seem to sit too well with this song. Both songs are better than average demo quality, even though we at Attitude know not to expect miracles, but the production on both songs does seem to be a bit of a let-down for a vinyl single. Not quite as shiny lo-fi as it should be. Overall, Broken Brow are a quite interesting prospect, and worth a listen at least (no gig dates with the promo either).
