Never heard of them? Don't panic neither had I, but I would suggest that you check them out as they have a two 2 track demo that are well worth listening to. The music is sort of late eighties rock ,with hints of early Bon Jovi , Cinderella and numerous bands of that era, but don't think aaaaaaaargh Bon Jovi. They have a sound which is not that common although I felt that the music required more rythem guitar through some of the verses but thats just a small complaint about an otherwise very good demo. They have a good mix of music on their demo, i.e. you can actually tell when another song comes on.

This three-piece from Glasgow had a really good live atmosphere when I saw them at the Cathouse, but it doesn't seem to come across on this demo very well. All the power of the live performance seems lost for some reason. The songs themselves, (industrial) vaguely reminiscent of Fear Factory (but with more samples and drum machine), are actually quite good though they have a more goth/industrial than metal/industrial feel.

'Destroy Me' rattles on and on and sounds like it could really do with better equipment being used to give it more bite. The drum machine seems to drone rather than pound making the song seem bland.

'Heat' seems to suffer the same problems. The vocals are too metallic sounding on the tape, like a dalek or something, whereas live they were just really powerful death grunts (ala Carcass).

'Hunger' starts out with a killer guitar grind that makes you think great things are to come, but all too quickly it falls back into the background. The drums sound like a steam train rolling on and on... 'Snake Abuser' (cool title lads) is more of the same, although possibly doesn't suffer as much as the others.

Definition is what T.A.I.N.T. need. They have the songs, but just need them to be basically recorded with a better sound. Oh, and lose the dalek. They'd go down really well played very loud in an industrial club with people dancing to it while on speed or something. The repeated rhythms would be perfect for a long term drug enduced dance frenzy. Great potential is here.

or: ********** if recorded better.

Sunrise starth the demos off with a very slow atmospheric number, permeated by Waylander's characteristic tin whistle. It has an almost Anathema (Eternity era) feel, with softly spoken vocals. This provides a good atmosphere for the rest of the demo to build upon. It is followed by the title track, a more traditional metal song with death grunt vocals and a very Celtic feel to the guitar riffs and war-like drums, although that probably owes more to the production than intent. Much heavier and a great tune, if a bit repetitive, but it's a good contrast to what came before and shows you're not in for a dull mono-stylistic demo.

A Hero's Lament is really a mixture of the two styles which came before. Starting off with a soft and sad vocal line, it quickly heavies up a bit and moves on to the death grunts and double bass beats before tailing off into a sad ending.

Emain Macha is probably the best and most varied of the lot, again with lots of Irish/Celtic influence. There is a hint of another band on one of the riffs in the middle, possibly Entombed, and very apt mood/speed changes. The second half brings on vocals similar to MBD on 'Your Shameful Heaven' with the tin whistle taking the place of the violin. Then the grinding guitar kicks in again as the song climaxes amidst double bass hammerings.

Waylander are an ace band, and the nicest bunch of people you could meet. Michael, their bassist, even gave me some of his Buckie!
NB: Waylander are about to be signed, so you'll be hearing more from them soon.
